- Ninety-four percent of World Evangelism Fund (WEF) apportionments were paid in the 2007-8 assembly year, with $48,629,856 raised, an increase from the previous year. Mission Specials totaled $29,267,879. Total giving for 2008 was $77,897,735.
- The Global Ministries Center (GMC) was completed on time and within budget.
- The GMC departments have reviewed and reduced their 2009 operating budgets.
- The USA Church of the Nazarene Loan Fund increased the amount of total loans from $1,092,119 in 2007 to $3,750,992 in 2008.
- Stewardship Ministries developed a new mission statement: to make generous disciples that accomplish the mission of the Church of the Nazarene. To accomplish this mission the team is concentrating on resourcing, inspiring, and partnering.
- Pensions and Benefits, USA has been able to maintain the focus on its mission by the grace of God and the gifts and commitment of a talented group of professionals. By partnering with the Southern Baptist denomination, health insurance is now available to Nazarene districts and large employers.
Church of the Nazarene Foundation (CNF) Mel McCullough, officer
- CNF Assets under management totaled $33,322,496.
- Ministry funding in the amount of $1,955,085 was distributed through Donor-Advised Funds.
- Charitable Gift Annuities, which enable a donor to receive an income and then leave a gift to ministry after their death, totaled $1,978,700, an increase of just over 14 percent.

- In 2008, the Church of the Nazarene relocated from its Headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri, to the Global Ministry Center (GMC) in Lenexa, Kansas. The move represented a shift in philosophy, including maximum flexibility and cooperation among individuals and departments. The greatest shift in thinking has been toward "one message and one mission" for all of the GMC, rather than departmental agendas.
- The General Secretary's office is facilitating the 2009 General Assembly and Conventions in Orlando, June 24 July 3, 2009.
- Statistics never tell the entire story, but for the Church of the Nazarene, 2008 is summarized by 16,209 organized churches, a five percent gain; 1,837,393 members, a nearly six percent gain; and 433 districts. New ministers credentialed totaled 615 throughout the world. Twenty-eight elders had their credentials recognized and 21 deacons were ordained.
- Worldwide per capita giving was $515. Monies paid for all purposes totaled $946,777,409.
- Nazarene Archives benefited from the move to the GMC with improved space for researchers, audiovisual projects, and staff. The historical collectionsÂ-some 4,000 cubic feet of materials that document the Church of the Nazarene's first centuryÂ-are now housed in a secure underground storage facility near the GMC.
- Holiness Today continues to serve as the primary magazine for the international Church of the Nazarene. In 2008, the magazine launched a blog that is generating insightful discussion.
- NCN News plays an essential role in providing Nazarene-related news to constituents around the world. The complimentary service provides 24/7 news on-line and a weekly E-news update.
- The Research Center provides the latest statistical and analytical data to the church worldwide. In 2008, the Center was a joint sponsor of the ReVisioning Survey, in addition to numerous surveys for Global Ministry Center entities.
- Web Development continues to manage the denomination's web site, and maintain the Nazarene Media Library.
World Mission Louie Bustle, director
- World Mission areas reported 355 organized districts, 17,540 churches, and 1,178,992 church members. For the second consecutive year, World Mission areas have had a net gain of over 100,000 members.
- Nazarene Compassionate Ministries is providing assistance to more than 11,000 children. Project Serve is a new web-based application for proposing projects on the fields.
- World Mission Communications oversees World Mission Broadcast (WMB), which has been operating for over 64 years. In South America, Mujer Valiosa TV (The Valued Woman) airs in 24 countries on over 1,400 stations.
- JESUS Film Harvest Partners reached a milestone of 50 million people viewing the JESUS Film by Nazarene JESUS Film teams.
- Mission Corps volunteers number 198 in short-term service, 287 in long-term service, and 23 tent makers.
- Ninety-four Youth in Mission participants served in 28 world areas.
- Work and Witness teams numbered 22 with 10,750 participants.
- Africa Region, Eugenio Duarte, director The Africa Region received 46,118 members this past year for a total membership of 410,816. This is a net gain of 11 percent. Africa has 3,463 church-type missions. This year 293 new churches were organized, bringing the total of organized churches to 6,356.
- Asia-Pacific Region, Verne Ward III, director The Asia-Pacific Region received 2,488 members for a total of 103,453. This is a net gain of two percent. The region has 387 church-type missions. During the year, 25 new churches were organized bringing the total to 1,650 churches.
- Caribbean Region, John Smee, director During the year, the Caribbean Region received 8,480 members, for a total membership of 155,364. This is a net gain of five percent. The region has 19 church-type missions. Seventeen new churches were organized, bringing the total of organized churches to 1,094.
- Eurasia Region, Gustavo Crocker, director The Eurasia Region received 23,591 members this year, bringing the region's total to 153,387 members. This is a net gain of 15 percent. Eurasia has 1,800 church-type missions. During the year, 525 new churches were organized, bringing the total of organized churches on the region to 4,296.
- Mexico and Central America Region, Luis Carlos Saenz, director In the past year, the Mexico and Central America Region received 5,676 members for a total membership of 154,235. This creates a net gain of more than three percent. The region has 167 church-type missions. Fifty-two new churches were organized, bringing the total to 1,752.
- South America Region, Christian Sarmiento, director The South America Region received 14,816 members this past year, bringing the region's total membership to 201,736. This is a net gain of seven percent. The region has 341 church-type missions. Fifty new churches were organized in the year, setting the total number of organized church at 2,392.
Nazarene Missions International Daniel Ketchum, general director
- Total missions giving was $77,897,735. Of this amount, $48,629,856 was raised for the World Evangelism Fund (WEF).
- The purpose of NMI is to mobilize churches in mission through praying, discipling, giving, and educating.
- The Prayer Mobilization Line gives specific prayer requests from missionaries and nationals in 151 world areas.
- Global disciple making invites emerging leaders from each generation to become active participants in missions.
- Church members are challenged to give sacrificially for missions.
- Mission education is expanding using a variety of vehicles: books, web sites, text messaging, curriculum development, the Prayer Mobilization Line, DVDs, and web-based resources.
- The World Evangelism Fund (WEF) is the lifeline that empowers mission strategy around the globe. Giving to the WEF soars when NMI tells the stories from the mission fields. NMI is also responsible to thank churches, districts, and regions for taking an active role in these stories, and to involve them in new stories God is writing through WEF.
USA/Canada Mission/Evangelism (UCME) Bob Broadbooks, director
- In 2008, Church of the Nazarene membership in Canada and the U.S. totaled 658,402.
- Clergy Development hosted prayer summit initiatives on five educational zones in 2008. The Nazarene Job Board was added to benefit those searching for ministry positions and those looking for candidates to fill positions.
- Chaplaincy Services reports almost 900 Nazarene chaplains around the world.
- Nazarene Compassionate Ministries USA/Canada made a deliberate shift to refocus and re-emphasize the "why" behind the "what" of compassionate ministries.
- In the U.S. and Canada, 134 churches report being multicultural, and are ministering to 34 different cultural groups.
- In 2008, Nazarene evangelists scheduled 2,983 revivals and events, and total giving to the Revivalism Fund reached $33,750.
Sunday School and Discipleships Ministries International (SDMI) Woodie Stevens, director
- The global Sunday School responsibility list indicates 1,499,335 persons enrolled with an average attendance of 812,672. Including the 47,001 weekly attendees in extension ministries, this is an increase of three percent for 2008.
- In response to local and district SDMI leaders requesting a Global Discipleship Summit on the Web, the SDMI leadership team conducted a "Listening to You" tour. The Webcast was released and is now a training resource located at discipleship.nazarene.org and with discipleshipplace.org.
- Continuing Lay Training (CLT) has experienced growth in every area of ministry development including providing more resources to the Church of the Nazarene globally with over 80 world areas accessing CLT materials.
- Single Adult Ministries saw the formation of Nazarene Fellowship of Single Adults (NFSA) in 2008.
- Worldwide Vacation Bible School (VBS) enrollment was 424,599, an increase of one percent.
- Total global Sunday School offerings were $12,292,513.
International Board of Education (IBOE) LeBron Fairbanks, commissioner
- The Church of the Nazarene has 57 undergraduate and graduate level educational institutions located in 40 countries on six continents.
- In 2008, there were 45,103 students enrolled internationally in Nazarene campuses and their extension centers. This was an increase of 2,932 over the previous year.
- Total assets of Nazarene educational institutions reached $1,055,112,861.
- Church support to the institutions totaled $27,468,445.
Nazarene Publishing House Hardy Weathers, president
- Beacon Hill Press released the first volumes of the New Beacon Bible Commentary (NBBC)Romans 1 and 2, and Jeremiah. NBBC will have 45 volumes, targeted for completion by 2015.
- In 2008, Lillenas Publishing Company became the recipient of its first ever Dove Award for Best Musical of the Year, Amazing GraceMy Chains are Gone, arranged and created by Dennis and Nan Allen.
- WordAction Publishing Company released a number of new products in 2008, including new Faith Connections Sunday School curriculum resources for the early elementary children's age level.
- Partnering with Children's Ministries International and over 70 districts, WordAction helped to provide 300 VBS starter kits to churches that might not have had a Vacation Bible School without financial support.
- Barefoot Ministries continues to support youth ministries in the Church of the Nazarene and beyond. Barefoot is the leading provider of on-line content to the youth ministry market.
Nazarene Youth International (NYI) Gary Hartke, director
- Total global NYI membership is 415,041 members, an increase of 18,318 since the previous year.
- It took NYPS/NYI 80 years to reach about 300,000 members. This is around 100,000 members every 26 years. In the last eight years membership has grown by about 100,000.
- A Global Youth Ministry Summit took place in March 2008 with participants representing seven countries. The event began in Amman, Jordan with approximately 100 Jordanian youth and youth workers gathering for training. Participants benefited from visiting key sites in Jordan and Israel, allowing them to experience the land of Scripture, connect with one another, and with the work of the Church of the Nazarene in the Holy Land.
- Cooperation between NYI and JESUS Film Harvest Partners resulted in 24 youth-led JESUS Film teams for 2008.
- NYI launched a new web site, NYIToday.org in 2008.
Via action at this General Board:
- The name of World Mission Literature was changed to Global Nazarene Publications.
- Approval was granted to enter four new world areas: Guinea Conakry and Niger on the Africa Region, and Moldova and Norway on the Eurasia Region. This brings the total to 155 world areas in which the Church of the Nazarene has an official presence.
