The Church of the Nazarene's International Board of Education and Nazarene Publishing House announced the launch of a cutting-edge library with a multi-lingual software system designed to meet the unique needs of the denomination's global education and ministerial training network.

The Wesleyan-Holiness Digital Library (WHDL) will have resources related to the course of study for ordination. However, the cross-disciplinary collection will extend far beyond theology and theological training to include research from many academic disciplines, historic church documents, conference papers, videos, and more.

"WHDL is a resource of such a high caliber and has the potential to become a major game changer for the denominational education system," said IBOE's Tammy Condon, curator of the library. "Just imagine the possibilities if other denominations and publishers soon join this project to serve an even larger Wesleyan-Holiness community for generations to come."

The library launched this week with 178 books and 31 media items, of these, 103 are resources from outside the USA/Canada Region. While the site is fully functional in five languages, the current collection has resources in more than 40 different languages.

"This is one of the most exciting projects I have seen in the 12 years I have served the global church," said General Superintendent Jesse C. Middendorf.

The library is the result of the collaborative work envisioned and modeled by the Books for Pastors taskforce lead by Dan Copp, IBOE/Global Clergy Development; Verne Ward, Global Mission; David Felter, general editor; Daniel Ketchum, Nazarene Missions International; and Bonnie Perry, Beacon Hill Press. The enterprise solution model designed by this taskforce led to the development of a collaborative team of librarians, educators, computer scientists, and information technology specialists from the global resources of Nazarene education and world regions.

"Resourcing our pastors, scholars, and students around the world with the best in Wesleyan-Holiness resources is a vision shared by everyone in this project," said Bonnie Perry, Nazarene Publishing House editorial director. "The collaboration and resulting synergy makes possible the development of a repository more expansive than any one entity could have accomplished on their own. We are just beginning to imagine the implications of that potential."

Visit the library at WHDL.org or at both the NPH and IBOE booths at General Assembly in Indianapolis, Indiana, June 19 through 24.
