Netherlands elects new district superintendent
Dordrecht, the Netherlands
Friday, March 14, 2014
Antonie Holleman was elected superintendent of the Netherlands District during its assembly on March 8 in Dordrecht. He will begin his new role on April 1.
Holleman and his wife, Wilma, have served as copastors at Zaanstad Church of the Nazarene since September. They accepted the call to pastor the church after years of service at European Nazarene College, including several as academic dean.
A total of 102 ballots were cast for four candidates. Antonie received 93 votes of the 68 needed.
General Superintendent J. K. Warrick noted that there was "great unity in the assembly."
Cor Holleman, Antonie's father, was a pioneer leader in the Netherlands work in the 1960s. He was not only the first and founding Nazarene pastor, but he was also the first district superintendent in the Netherlands.
"Being only back on the district as a pastor for six months, and now already elected as DS feels as if things are moving too fast," Antonie said. "On the other hand it feels good to serve the district where I grew up and started my ministry. It is home."
He shared his vision for the church in the Netherlands.
"My vision for the church circles around three themes: a gracious church, a biblical church, a holy church," Antonie said. "I hope that the church in the Netherlands can be a gracious church that will be able to reconcile divisions we so often experience in our own churches."
Holleman will continue to copastor the church in Zaanstad and divide his time between the local church and his district responsibilities.
The Hollemans have two children, Frank and Corianne.
