SSM recognizes W. Talmadge Johnson for distinguished service
Indianapolis
“It was a privilege to have General Superintendent W. Talmadge Johnson as a guest for our Sunday School Ministries Convention," said David Graves, director of Sunday School Ministries.
Throughout his distinguished career, Johnson served as an evangelist, pastor, and district superintendent. He was appointed general president of Nazarene Youth International from 1972-1976.
In July 1994, Johnson was appointed director of Sunday School
Ministries, a position he held until 2001. As director, Johnson brought
a passionate commitment to revitalizing the importance of Sunday School
in the Church of the Nazarene. Under his leadership, Sunday School
experienced resurgence as he stressed the importance of evangelism and
education, devotion, and discipleship. He emphasized that Sunday School
needs to be people-focused and purpose-powered.
In recognition of a lifetime of outstanding leadership and commitment
to Sunday School Ministries, Graves was honored to present General
Superintendent Johnson with the Second Mile Award and a sculpture
appropriately titled, “The Teacher."
