Closing challenge looks to the future
Indianapolis
The General NMI Convention came to an inspirational conclusion with the Closing Challenge on Friday afternoon.
“We know the story of the Cross," proclaimed General NMI President Eunice Brubaker, “so we go on freely, boldly, happily, confidently, compassionately sharing the Truth in love." General NMI Director Nina Gunter stated the organization's centennial goals for 2008-09. The goals, based on the four NMI objectives are:
• Prayer—10 million hours of prayer. Every Nazarene pray a minimum of 10 hours.
• Mission Education—Resources to highlight 100 years of Nazarene missions.
• Youth and Children—Every child and youth participate in at least one mission-related project.
• Giving—Every district pay 100 percent of the World Evangelism Fund.
Gunter went on to point out how the next generation can be affected,
“What we teach them, what we show them, how we treat them, how we love
them today will be the seed that will grow and bear fruit."
Indianapolis First Church of the Nazarene illustrated the message
through pantomime, and the Hollywood (Maryland) Nazarene Stick Team
performed to the song, “Arise."
Regional directors, newly elected General NMI Council members, program
coordinators, district NMI presidents, and delegates as representatives
of NMI members around the world were challenged to “seizing the Cross
and share it," NMI's quadrennial theme.
Music Evangelist Brian Arner sang “I Bowed on My Knees and Cried Holy,"
and General Superintendent Paul G. Cunningham pronounced the
benediction and issued a commission to the Convention, sending all out
to make a difference in their places around the world.
