| Philip Tyler | | Philip Tyler, Point Loma Nazarene University violin professor and orchestra director, joined the music faculty in 2001. He earned a doctorate in violin performance and a masters degree in orchestral conducting from The Florida State University in 1996 where he studied with Karen Clarke, Julian Ross, and Elliott Chapo. He also holds degrees from Florida Atlantic University and the University of Central Oklahoma. In addition to solo performances, Dr. Tyler performs regularly with Trio Point Loma, a PLNU faculty ensemble. He has performed with orchestras in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, California, and Mexico as conductor, concertmaster or section player. Prior to teaching at PLNU, Dr. Tyler taught at Hobe Sound Bible College in Florida and at McNeese State University in Louisiana.
Dr. Tyler resides in San Diego with his wife, Donna, and daughter, Anna. He serves the community as president of the local section of the American String Teachers Association with the National School Orchestra Association and as the founder and director of the Point Loma String Project. | | |
