Fast Facts: Sept/Oct 04
Nazarene Research and the Association of Nazarenes in Social Research (ANSR) recently conducted a poll within the church for clergy and laity. Results indicated the following statistics:
- 2/3 of Nazarene laypersons are most comfortable in a church that is ministering to others.
- 84% of Nazarene clergy prefer this kind of church.
- 3/4 of Nazarene pastors believe the church should be a "kingdom presence" in a hurting world.
- Slightly more laypersons than pastors (63.5% vs. 61.2%) strongly agree that the church can and should make a significant difference in social conditions of the world (i.e., poverty, hunger, homelessness, race relations, and so on)
- Slightly more clergy than laypersons (64.3% vs. 62.7%) think the church should actively take a stand against abortion.
- When asked about the Church of the Nazarene's theological position, nearly 82% of laypersons and nearly 90% of clergy feel the church is about where it should be.
