Since the third General Assembly (1911), the Church of the Nazarene's general meeting has convened every fourth year, except twice, when five-year spans were deemed preferable (1923-28 and 1980-85). Fifteen cities in the U.S. have hosted the event: Anaheim, California (1985) Chicago, Illinois (1907) Columbus, Ohio (1928) Dallas, Texas (1976) Indianapolis, Indiana (1989, 1993, 2001, 2005) Kansas City, Missouri (1915, 1919, 1923, 1936, 1952, 1956, 1960, 1968, 1980) Miami, Florida (1972) Minneapolis, Minnesota (1944) Nashville, Tennessee (1911) Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (1940) Pilot Point, Texas (1908) Portland, Oregon (1964) St. Louis, Missouri (1948) San Antonio, Texas (1997) Wichita, Kansas (1932) Officially, the first general assembly was held in Chicago in 1907, the year before the denomination considers its inception. Including Pilot Point*, that makes fifteen different cities that have hosted general assemblies to date. *In 1923, the denomination selected the 1908 Pilot Point meeting as the official anniversary date, although the first general assembly was held a year earlier in Chicago.
