Membership Growth in Local Churches Nazarenes reported 16,577 congregations at the beginning of the 2004-5 assembly year worldwide. Of those churches, 6,987 (or 42 percent) showed membership gains during the year. Click Here to view graph. In Canada and the U.S., 48 percent of the churches showed an increase in membership during the 2004-5 assembly season. Recent research for the 1924-25 assembly year indicates that we may actually be doing better than we did 80 years ago. During that season, 44 percent of reporting Churches of the Nazarene showed a membership gain. During the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, more churches reported gains. But the range has stayed consistently between 45 and 55 percent for most of the denomination's first century. Click Here to view graph.
