Olivet students achieve 100 percent pass rate for teacher certifications
Bourbonnais, Illinois
Olivet Nazarene University's 137 candidates for the Illinois teaching certification in 2013 are in a select group.
In a recent public report, Olivet's School of Education announced 100 percent of these students passed all of the Illinois Certification Testing System (ICTS) tests required to obtain an Illinois teaching certificate. This is another indicator of the ongoing commitment to preparing quality teachers who will serve the world's students and communities.
These assessments include applicable content-area tests, as well as the Test of Academic Proficiency and the Assessment of Professional Teaching test. Candidates who pass these tests are eligible to receive a Professional Educators License.
Olivet students have maintained a high pass rate for the last four years with a 99 percent pass rate in 2010, 98 percent in 2011, and 99 percent in 2012.
"The mission of Olivet's School of Education is to produce graduates who become 'Professionals Influencing Lives,'" said Robert Hull, dean of the school. "Our teacher candidates are prepared through well-conceived and sound academic programs in a distinctively Christian environment. We are pleased with the 100 percent ICTS pass rate and proud of the students who have worked hard to achieve this requirement."
The U.S. Department of Education gathers and compiles this Title II data as part of its report on the quality of teacher preparation, and the states' requirements and assessments for initial teaching credentials.
Olivet's School of Education is currently listed among the Top U.S. Colleges & Universities for Teaching Education by the online College Database. Colleges and universities included on this list offer their students the widest range of education program options.
