Q&A: Can a Church of the Nazarene change its name to exclude “Nazarene?”
by David P. Wilson
Q: Can a Church of the Nazarene change its name to exclude “Nazarene?” Does this mean it is no longer a “Nazarene” church?"
According the Manual for the Church of the Nazarene:
102.4. The Articles of Incorporation of each local church shall include the following provisions:
1. The corporate name shall include the words "Church of the Nazarene." The name "Church of the Nazarene" shall appear on church signs, official stationery, and church publications.
This is what the Manual states. We depend on the local church and its district for accountability and implementation.
David Wilson is general secretary for the Church of the Nazarene.
