Praying for the Persecuted Church
The International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP) takes place the second Sunday of November. This day of remembrance provides opportunity for Christians worldwide to focus on those suffering for their Christian faith. But regardless of date or season, people of faith must be vigilant in praying for believers in areas where persecution is rampant.

The Body of Christ can pray and can take appropriate action to effect change. Here are some specific ways to pray for the persecuted church:

  • Pray for them to know that when their persecutors strike it is an indication that God is working and their enemies see spiritual battles being won for God.

  • Pray that they will see the church growing around them. Persecution inevitably leads to growth.

  • Pray for God's presence to go with them into and through their persecution. Ask God to keep them strong and true.

  • Pray for their families and fellow believers, that they will be strengthened. Ask God to assist their families, who are often left with no means of financial or emotional support.

  • Pray for salvation for their enemies and persecutors.

  • Pray for the world not facing persecution that God will remind us to continue to uphold those who are suffering.
