John Wesley was a fundamentalist.

He believed the Bible is inerrant and infallible in all that it teaches. Let's set the record straight, right from John Wesley himself:

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God (consequently, all Scripture is infallibly true)."

"We know, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is therefore true and right concerning all things."

"If there be any mistakes in the Bible there may as well be a thousand. If there be one falsehood in that book, it did not come from the God of truth."

"Will not the allowing there is any error in Scripture shake the authority of the whole?"

I am frankly amazed that the Church of the Nazarene spends more effort on apologetic against fundamentalists than against materialists. While I agree with Dr. Truesdale's assessment, I really wonder about the time spent on this issue. At the same time, there is a tendency to view anyone who holds that Miracles can happen - i.e. that God directly intervenes in the material world today with intention and direction - as fundamentalist. We are in danger not of a low view of the Bible but of a low view of the interaction of The Father, in Jesus working by the Holy Spirit in the world.
At the same time, while Dr. Truesdale talks about the high view of Scripture that comes from clear analysis he seems to ignore the battle taking place on the side of the culture that is pounding on the historicity of the Bible. The world is commonly claiming that Jesus never existed, that the Bible is not accurate, that the resurrection is foolish. We need replies to this much more like what FF Bruce did in the last Century. While we may look for Christ in the Scriptures, if the stories we hold are inherently unreliable and or false what Christ do we look for?
