He had waited for the rains to come, waited for the flood waters to wipe the earth
clean. Now he must wait again. This time for dry land and new life—but would
they really come?
Family was everything. He had deep ties to his extended family—yet no children
of his own. Now he must decide whether to leave the family he knows for the promise
of a family and future that seems impossible.
All of his life he had schemed and finagled to get ahead. It gained him a birthright
and blessings, but it cost him so much more. And no amount of trickery will get him
out of this night's divine encounter.
When he dreamed about his brothers bowing down to him, he never imagined it would
look quite like this. After a lifetime of faithfulness through difficulty, he must
face the brothers who ripped him from his family and left him for dead.
Each time God required something of him, he made the difficult choice to obey. But
this time was different. With enemy armies behind him and no way to escape, could he
obey God one more time? And would He deliver them?
His days of warring are long over, but he can still hear the echo of trumpets as he
remembers the march around Jericho. Looking to the future of his people, he wonders
if they will remember it was always Yahweh who delivered them, and not their own power.
